A bank robbery has put an innocent woman in the hospital after a police chase ended in a violent crash.
Police said the chase started after Thomas Presley, 56, of Marshville, robbed a Rockingham BB&T bank Friday afternoon. What happened next put Presley and an innocent victim in the Anson Community Hospital.
Police said Presley robbed the bank on Rockingham Road by threatening employees with a possible explosive device.
"I was scared so after I saw it I was like, 'This is crazy' so I ran back in the house," said Breanna Everett.
Everett lives just feet from the bank and watched the robbery, which she described like a movie, unfold.
"I just saw his car flying down the road. It was crazy. The police were chasing after him and everything," says Everett.
Rockingham police wouldn't say how much money Presley took from the bank, but said they had to chase him after he wouldn't stop for blue lights.
That's when officers threw stop sticks and flattened his tires. Shortly after, police said Presley crashed into a silver van head-on, sending both drivers to the hospital.
"I hope she's OK, but other than that I hope they got him," said Everett.
Police and the FBI are continuing to investigate the robbery, trying to determine if another bomb threat at Walmart in Rockingham Friday morning could be connected to the robbery at the bank.
The woman in that other vehicle that was hit is being treated for unknown injuries. According to Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly said the suspect was also taken to the hospital after he complained of pain.
