A breaking and entering suspect was found hiding in a restroom at a medical center in southeast Charlotte, police said.

Officers were dispatched to a commercial burglary alarm call at the Northcross Medical Center on Albemarle Road around 1 a.m. Thursday. Officers said the rear door of the building had been kicked in and was covered with what appeared to be roofing tar.

Inside the building, a hole had been cut through an examination room that led to the pharmacy, police said. Officers also found a bag containing burglary tools and prescription medications that been taken from the pharmacy, according to investigators.

Police said they found Richard Rivera, 34, hiding in a restroom. He had attempted to get into the building by cutting through the newly tarred roof and was covered in roofing tar, according to police.

Rivera is suspected in several other breaking-and-entering cases and an attempted break-in at the same business earlier this year, police said.
