Police find woman who escaped from hospital; Newborn baby still missing

ROCK HILL, S.C. —

After nearly a month of searching, Rock Hill police said they tracked down a pregnant woman who escaped from a local hospital.

Officials said they located her baby, too. According to police, Crystal Taylor gave birth in a Gaston County hospital and handed the baby over to adoptive parents.

Police believe Taylor may have exposed her unborn child to cocaine. She tested positive for the drug when she was admitted to Piedmont Medical Center.

The baby could not be tested for cocaine, police said.

But police said, with the help of two accomplices, she managed to escape from the hospital.

Taylor faces several child neglect charges.
