NEWTON, N.C. —
A man accused in a homicide stood before a judge Monday just minutes before his alleged victim’s sons. The trio is locked up in the same Catawba County jail after investigators said the sons went to the suspect’s home, confronted his family members and put one on the hospital.Channel 9 reporter Dave Faherty talked to both families devastated by what has happened.Police confirm the homicide suspect, Roger Frenseschini, and Maurice Hunsucker knew each other. The two had even cooked out together on July 4 but got into an argument at a car wash that led to the fatal stabbing, police said.Frensceshini appeared in court in Newton Monday morning with his arm in a sling.Thirty minutes later, Hunsucker's sons were in the same courtroom.Police said Ashton and Marcus Mayfield went to Frenceschini’s home and assaulted his son, Derek, after learning of their father’s slaying.“They were hurt and upset. One thing led to another. They had lost their father,” said mother Deidra Mayfield.“They acted out of anger because they were very close to their father,” said brother Odis Hunsucker.Derek Frenceschini showed Channel where the two brothers broke his arm after telling them his father was a killer.“They threatened my mom and wife. They threatened to kill my kids,” said Derek Fenceschini.Diedra Mayfield is worried her sons won’t be able to get our jail to attend their father’s funeral.“What can I do? I’m going to try to do everything I can do to get them home to see their dad for the last time, but the bond is ridiculous,” Mayfield said.Derek Frenceschini told Channel 9 he is alright with the brothers going to the funeral but the Sheriff’s Office said that is unlikely to happen because of the seriousness of the charges. The men would have to post a $40,000 bond each to get out of jail.
