HICKORY, N.C. —

Hickory police said a man shot and killed another man Saturday morning who was allegedly breaking into his home.

Police said the homeowner, Paul Ohle, shot the intruder during the break-in shortly before 9 a.m.  Investigators said that the man accused of breaking into the home died.

The shooting occurred on 14th Street in Hickory.

On Sunday, Ohle said he had no choice when a man pulled up to his northeast Hickory home in a car and kicked in his front door.  He said the man wanted Ohle's TV.

"Oh, he was going to kill me. I've got staples all in my head," Ohle said.

Ohle said he leaped to get his shotgun but didn't get the chance to shoot the alleged intruder, as the two struggled with each other.

That's when Ohle said he managed to get his other gun -- a revolver.

"When I finally got it in my hand, I immediately shot one time and he kept coming down, so I shot four more times," Ohle said.

A neighbor said he saw an orange car pull up moments before he heard what sounded like gunshots.

"I feel for the guy. Me, now me, I wouldn't want to shoot nobody.  Because it would be on my mind all the time if I do defend myself," said neighbor Carl Perry.

Police said there appeared to be a struggle and Ohle was hurt and had to be hospitalized. He was treated and released.

Police have not released the name of the man who was killed. Investigators are still deciding if charges will be filed.
