CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Police are investigating after a man was found dead Monday morning, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

“His smile, when he did smile, it’d light up the room because he had the deepest dimples,” said Nicole Porter. “I will never forget his smile.”

Nicole Porter says her son, 22-year-old TyShawn Matthews, was killed in his home on Palm Breeze Lane in northwest Charlotte.

Police said they think this was a domestic situation, a fight, that led to his death.

“We believe we've identified everyone that was involved and it wasn't a random act of violence,” said Capt. Gregg Collins, with the Freedom Division of CMPD.

Porter said that Matthews had two sons from a previous relationship, a 4-year-old and an 8-month-old. She said that when he became a father, he turned his life around for the better and that he was always a loving dad.

“He was my everything. He still will always be my everything and I’m happy he gave me my grandson to carry on his name,” said Porter.

She said she can’t imagine why anyone would try to intentionally hurt her son. But she thinks whatever happened, got out of hand.

“Things happen in situations and it gets out of hand, and in this situation it got out of hand,” said Porter.

Porter said she still has many questions.

“I want some answers right now,” she said.

Police charged 18-year-old Kewn Kittarti Littlejohn in connection to the incident.

Police have not said whether a weapon was used in this case or talking about injuries.
