A man wearing a Spiderman mask shot a convenience store clerk in the leg during a robbery attempt, the Statesville Police Department said.

The incident happened at the Kangaroo on Safriet Road around 1:30 a.m.

The clerk was stocking shelves when a man walked in the store and stood just inside the door, according to police. Investigators said the clerk ran into a storage closet and closed the door after seeing the man raise his arm.

The man fired one shot, which went through the storage closet door and grazed the clerk’s leg, police said.

The shooter and another man then fled the store, investigators said.

The clerk is expected to be OK.

After reviewing security footage, police said it appears the shooter was a white man wearing a Spiderman mask. He is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing a black jacket.
