MINT HILL, N.C. —

Police are looking for the driver who they said left the scene of a crash in Mint Hill that killed a man.

Police said Jeff Hardin was walking on Lebanon Road when he was hit.

Eyewitness News spoke with his father, who said Hardin had called him around 1:30 a.m. and said he was walking home.

He said Hardin has friends who live near the area, so he would often walk home late at night.

Mint Hill police got a call around 2:45 a.m., saying there was someone lying in the road.

A little later, Hardin’s family got the news.

His father and other members of his family are left to wonder what might have been if Wednesday night never happened.

“He was trying to make it into manhood. He'd just found a place to live," Tony Hardin said.

And they are looking for answers to more pressing questions, like who hit him and why they didn't stop.

"It's just sad that somebody could do that and leave. If they'd stayed and called the ambulance, he might be alive right now," Hardin said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Mint Hill Police Department at 704-545-1085.
