GAFFNEY, S.C. —
A South Carolina man is charged with attempted murder Friday morning after police said he tried to kill his hearing-impaired parents. The Shelby Star reported Fletcher Blanton of Gaffney set fire to the home he shared with his parents earlier this week. Blanton initially told investigators he woke up, smelled smoke and got his parents out. But they later found the fire had been set, and a special fire alarm for people with hearing problems had been unplugged and thrown outside. Investigators said Blanton also ran from an interview at the sheriff's office before he was even arrested.
