SHELBY, N.C. —
A woman read the Bible aloud for more than an hour to the attacker who slashed her throat Wednesday, according to police.
The 32-year-old woman and her son had just returned to their Royster Avenue home from church, Shelby police said. Before she could get inside the house, a man running through her yard attacked her with a knife.
The victim read the Bible to her assailant for more than an hour, and the man apologized and walked away, Shelby Police Capt. Rick Stafford said Thursday. She called 911 and was rushed to Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Stafford said the woman is recovering from surgery and was listed in stable condition Thursday afternoon.
Police are searching for the man who stabbed her. The attacker is described as a light-skinned, cleanshaven man who may be biracial. He appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s, according to police.
Anyone with information is asked to call Stafford or Lt. Wray Hamrick at the Shelby Police Department, 704-484-6845.
