Changes are coming soon to a mailbox near you -- and postal customers in Charlotte have mixed feelings about that. The U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday that its will be stopping Saturday mail deliveries -- except for packages and special deliveries -- the week of Aug. 5. The move comes as the Postal Service looks for ways to save money after big losses the last few years. The post office says it will save $2 billion a year by cutting out Saturday deliveries, but some Charlotte customers are concerned. "Some mail I look for on Saturdays -- especially if it's mailed on Tuesday or Wednesday, so yes it's a concern for me," said Terry Brown. For Gerald Lewis, the Saturday mail can be critical -- since he gets his heart medication through the mail. "That's going to be most important to me because I don't know when it's going to get here... it might be a Friday and it might be on Saturday," Lewis said. The Postal Service hasn't decided if it will continue delivering medication, along with other packages, on Saturdays. But other customers say the move is long overdue. Debbie Thomas said there's nothing that comes in her mail on Saturday that could not wait until Monday. "The banks are closed. If I got anything that was going to the bank, it's not going to go to the bank until Monday anyway. It's just not a big deal to me," Thomas said.
