WASHINGTON —

Millions will tune in Tuesday night for President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech to Congress.

Obama is bringing people who have been affected by gun violence to reinforce his speech calling for universal background checks and a ban on assault rifles.

But his opponents are bringing a celebrity to counter it.

Musician and gun advocate Ted Nugent has been invited as a guest of a Texas republican congressman.

Nugent was investigated last year after saying if Obama were re-elected he “will either be dead or in jail.”

Meanwhile, Obama is expected to mention Hadiya Peddelton, who was randomly shot and killed in Chicago.

The 15-year-old sang at the president’s inauguration. Her parents will be in the gallery Tuesday night.

“Absolutely, I’m happy that the issue is being addressed.  I’m happy that her death is not in vain and if they had to have a poster child,” said Cleopatra Pendleton.

Another big topic for the president’s speech will be immigration reform.

Obama is visiting North Carolina after his State of the Union address.

The president is scheduled to speak Wednesday in Asheville at Linamar Corp., a supplier of engine, transmission and driveline components.

The Canadian auto parts maker moved into a shuttered Asheville-area factory two years ago with plans to employ as many as 400 workers.

Obama is focusing on proposals to strengthen the economy for the middle class, topics he's expected to address in Tuesday night's State of the Union.

It's a tradition for presidents to launch a post-speech tour to pitch their proposals to the public.
