The Herald in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. —

A Rock Hill man is accused of hitting a woman’s car with a machete and then walking down the street, waving the weapon in the air, police say.

William Ayers, 40, has been charged with unlawful weapon carrying, property damage, public disorderly conduct and resisting police, according to police documents.

Late last week officers were dispatched to Izard Street, where a woman said a man hit her Mercedes SUV with a car before walking down the street, according to a Rock Hill police report. A man matching the suspect description was seen down the street.

The man, identified as Ayers, was waving a machete, with a crowd of people pointing, the report states.

Officers told Ayers mutliple times to drop the machete, but he told them he wouldn’t, the report states. He also told officers they would have to shoot him before he let it go.

After another officer arrived and positioned his patrol car in front of Ayers, he threw the machete down and lifted his hands, the report states.

He is being held in Moss Justice Center on a $8,000 bond.
