Rowan Co. backs out of CRP agreement again

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. —

Rowan County leaders are angry with a Charlotte nonprofit again.

In February, Rowan County stopped funding the Charlotte Regional Partnership after its CEO received a $60,000 bonus.

After undergoing changes, the county compromised and agreed to pay half its dues using private money.

Rowan County Commissioner Jon Barber told Channel 9 the CRP now wants them to pay the full amount and Barber isn't happy with that.

Now, Barber is demanding the nonprofit return the state money used to match those dues.

“They need to give $45,000 back to the state of North Carolina, and if they want a true partnership, then they need to consider a leadership change, period,” said Barber.

A CRP spokesman said the agency is trying to come up with a plan to fix any problems with county leaders.
