Rowan-Salisbury schools will be on a "code yellow lockdown" for the last day of class before the holiday break.
The lockdown was implemented after unfounded rumors of violence were sent to the schools. A teacher from one of the schools said the four Rowan-Salisbury high schools received threats.
A message was sent out by officials, stating, "Rowan County schools will be under a code yellow lockdown for teachers on Friday due to unfounded rumors. Code yellow means all doors must be locked and there are no outside activities. This message is not meant to alarm anyone but to let you know what we are doing to keep students safe."
A captain with the Rowan Sheriff's Office said the threats were unconfirmed and the office doesn't believe there's a legitimate threat. However, he said he agreed with the school district's decision to be cautious on the last day.
