GUILDFORD COUNTY, N.C. —
Saturday, soldiers and Guilford County leaders met for the groundbreaking of a new Army Reserve Center in McLeansville.
The $16 million facility will serve 600 soldiers and five units.
The other three reserve centers on McCloud Drive in Greensboro, North Church Street in Greensboro and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Winston Salem will shut down.
Lt. Col. Rob Cooley said soldiers have outgrown other outdated facilities.
Cooley said the funding for the facility was set aside before the military budget cut from the government and the new site should be complete by the summer of 2014.
