COLUMBIA, S.C. —
People in South Carolina may one day be allowed to carry guns in public without a concealed weapons permit.
There were cheers when a subcommittee passed the bill after a public hearing Wednesday night.
Under the proposal, felons would still not be able to carry handguns.
Others who carry guns would no longer need to take a training class, and would not have to keep the gun hidden.
Critics say it would make it harder for police to arrest people who shouldn’t have guns.
The bill now goes to another state house committee.
