Shooting suspect charged with misdemeanor

McDowell News

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. —

An argument between two men Saturday night led to gunfire, sending one to the hospital and leaving the other facing a criminal charge.

Detective Kevin Fineberg of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Jamie Christopher Hensley, 53, of 59 Triple R Drive in Nebo with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

Fineberg said the case is still under investigation, and the charges against Hensley could be upgraded.

Hensley and 41-year-old Charles Timothy Rhom of 54 Triple R Drive got into a dispute at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Hensley’s home, according to Fineberg. But the detective wouldn’t say why the two men were quarreling.

Hensley brandished a .22-caliber revolver and shot Rhom in the stomach, Fineberg stated.

Rhom was treated for his injury at The McDowell Hospital.
