SOUTH CAROLINA —

The spring tourism season kicks off in South Carolina on Saturday.

The Myrtle Beach Marathon is one of two events that mark the unofficial start of the season.

One Costal Carolina University researcher said 80 percent of hotel rooms could be filled this weekend.

In Charleston, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition is expected to draw 40,000 people.

Tourism is a $15 billion industry in the state.
