RALEIGH, N.C. —
Gov. Pat McCrory held a press conference Thursday in which he said the state's Medicaid program is broken and mismanaged millions of taxpayer dollars.
The state auditor released a report outlining problems with the Medicaid program. It says the program spent almost 40 percent more on administrative costs than other states the same size.
It also says it failed to budget correctly, and in some cases simply didn't monitor spending.
The governor said the dollars mismanaged could have gone to areas like education or roads.
“The issues we have heard today that exist at the Department of Health and Human Services should be of concern to every citizen of North Carolina. This is taxpayer money,” McCrory said.
