A state assessment team is heading into Stanly County to assess the damage from a storm that slammed the area Thursday.
At least 50 homes were damaged, several with large trees going straight into their living rooms. The county could be eligible for state disaster funding.
About 800 to 900 customers in the Albemarle area are still without power. Albemarle utilities officials said that power should be restored either Monday or Tuesday for most customers, with a few scattered outages until the end of the week.
