NORTH CAROLINA —

North Carolina's state Senate debated a bill on Tuesday night that would block the expansion of Medicaid under the health care overhaul.

Gov. Pat McCrory's office is asking state senators not to rush the bill.

Lobbyists said passing the bill would delay funding for a mandated computer system to determine eligibility for programs like Medicaid.

McCrory said this is not the time to expand Medicaid coverage.
