A fatal crash in Albemarle is being partially blamed on storm damage.
Eyewitness News drove through the intersection of Highway 52 and Highway 24 at about 4 a.m. Friday and noted that the intersection was dangerous due to the traffic signal being out. Thursday evening’s storms knocked out power to the area.
Then, just before 4:30 a.m., a tractor-trailer carrying bricks collided with a van in the intersection. Three people were flown to a nearby hospital with injuries.
One person was later declared dead. The conditions of the others and their names have not been released.
Authorities said that at the time of the crash, the traffic lights were flashing. They said the tractor-trailer had the yellow flashing lights, and the van pulled out in front of the truck from the flashing red light side.
