CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. —
Sheriff's deputies have charged two men with first-degree murder in a Cleveland County woman's death almost 17 years ago.
Gator Walter Martin, 42, from 1721 Roy Woods Road in Comer, Ga., William Earl Huffstetler, 37, from 110 Brull Street in Blacksburg, S.C., and Randy Michael Wagenknect, 40, of Knoxville, Tenn., were arrested Monday and charged with killing Charlene Simmons on June 21, 1995, according to arrest warrants.
Simmons was found dead at the Log Cabin, a nightclub she owned, which was located on South Battleground Avenue in Kings Mountain.
The cause of Simmons' death was never released.
Martin and Huffstetler took an unknown amount of money from Simmons and threatened her with a knife, the arrest warrants state.
Deputies also charged Huffstetler and Martin with robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy.
Martin and Huffstetler are in the Cleveland County Detention Center without bond. Wagenknect was in the process of being extradited from Tennessee.
