ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. —

Troopers in Rowan County are still looking for a man they said hit and killed a couple riding a motorcycle then walked away from the scene.

The accident happened along Airport Road not far from Interstate 85.

Officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said Kahlil Farook was driving east when he lost control, crossed the center line and collided head on with a motorcycle operated by Tommy Jones.

His wife, Suzette Jones, was on the back and was also killed.

Jeffrey Moore lives near where the accident happened.

"I heard tires screeching so I ran to the door, looked down the road a car -- looked like he hit a pole," Moore said.

But from his front door, Moore could not see how serious the accident was until he ran down the street.

"I heard somebody say, 'Call 911,' and about that time I saw two bodies laying down," Moore said.

On Monday morning, Suzette Jones' mother, Sue Burriss, visited the scene where he daughter died.

"I just can't come to grip with it," Burriss said. "(It's) too much of a shock, too sudden."

Burriss said she was looking for anything that may have been left behind that belonged to her daughter.

"I'm really not going to have any closure even if they do find out who did it because I'm going to miss my daughter from now on," Burriss said.

Troopers were back at the scene of the crash investigating Monday afternoon and are still looking for the man they believe is responsible.

Kahlil Farook has been in and out of prison since the early 1980s. In 1992, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder, but was released in 1999.

In 2000, he was back in prison for assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to 11 years.

He just got off parole in May.
