Biden's motorcade snarls traffic around city

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A visit from Vice President Joe Biden on the same day of Charlotte’s annual Speed Street festival geared up made for her traffic nightmares on Thursday.

Biden was attending a fundraising event for the Obama reelection campaign. He started with a $10,000 per plate fundraising luncheon, and followed that with a grassroots supporters event.

When the vice president’s motorcade moved through uptown Charlotte around noon, traffic slowed to a stop on many streets.

It was the same story on many other roads in Charlotte as the motorcade made its way through town on a secret route that some officers said even they didn't know in advance where the motorcade was headed.

As the motorcade moved south, anyone unlucky enough to be caught in the way just had to be patient.

"All of the sudden all of these cop cars came out if nowhere and blocked off the entire street. It was actually very frustrating," said Claire Sherman.

She finally made it home only to find the motorcade camped out across the street on Olde Providence Road while Biden was attending a fundraiser.
