Warm, sunny weather replaced by cold, dreary conditions

The warm and sunny weather from over the weekend is long gone, replaced by much cooler and dreary weather.

Some light mist and drizzle formed this morning around Charlotte and more rain is likely through the rest of the day.

This will keep temperatures held down to the 40s for most areas, with a slight chance to climb into the lower 50s.

The bulk of the steady rain arrives tonight and may last into early Tuesday morning.

A few areas may hear a rumble of thunder, especially south of Charlotte.

Some small hail is possible in the heavier downpours to the south since it is so cold aloft in the atmosphere.

The area will dry out Tuesday, but the warmer weather does not stick around for long.

Highs will jump into the 60s Tuesday before falling back to the 50s for the rest of the week.

More rain is likely by Friday.
