One of the worst-hit streets by floodwater in Charlotte was Prince Street by Stewart Creek. Channel 9 watched crews drying out homes there Thursday night where floodwater had crept right into living rooms. Families in the most damaged homes found new places to stay.
"They had water in their homes," neighbor Kenny Stevenson said. "That car was under water up until the top of the car, and you look at that black car and it was up past the windows."
Stevenson was lucky. The water stopped at his stairs.
"We are fortunate," Stevenson said. "It's still not over yet."
Firefighters told Channel 9 Prince Street had the worst damage in the city because Stewart Creek rose over its banks and flooded.
"We've had two solid weeks now of a lot of rain in this area," Deputy Chief Jeff Dulin said. "Our ground cannot take any more water. Anything that drops now is going into the creeks, which means the creeks are going to come up very fast."
