WADESBORO, N.C. —
With her sons by her side, Saundra Davis is recovering from a deadly crash on Christmas Day, where she was trapped.
"He said they were going to have to cut me out of the car," said Davis, from her hospital bed as she spoke about the crash. Wadesboro police said that Davis was riding in her car with her husband. Investigators said the Hooper family's car drifted into their lane and hit them. Thirteen-month-old Alexis Hooper died. Her parents, her uncle, Saundra and her husband survived. "God could take every one of us, but he spared every one of us for a reason," said Davis. With the chance that she was given, Davis and her family are praying for the Hoopers. "The love, it goes out, the prayers," said Tim Thomas, Davis' son. Tim and his brother visited Alex Hooper, who was driving the other car. He lost his daughter in the crash and his wife has had two surgeries since. "To let them know that we love them," said Thomas. "It's just tragic." As Thomas and his brother send out prayers, they are asking for some for their mother as well. They said she is a strong woman who will get through this. "Her strength, it's coming from the prayers of the people, coming from being strong willed," said Thomas. Saundra's husband was driving that night. He was taken to another hospital. He has been released but is still recovering at home.
A fund has been set up to benefit Davis at PNC Bank.
Alex and Kelsey Hooper are still in the hospital recovering. Their family has been posting updates online and has also been asking for prayers for the Davis family.Read our coverage from the vigil held for the 13-month-old victim here.
