Police are looking for two men who robbed a woman in a parking deck at Carolinas Medical Center.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials at the hospital said they are conducting their own investigation into what happened and said they are reviewing security procedures to see how the suspect was able to get away.
Police said the victim, who was visiting a patient, was walking to her car in the parking deck along Scott Avenue when two armed men approached her with a gun drawn. Police said they took her purse and ran away. She wasn't hurt.
Hospital officials said because they have around-the-clock visiting hours, they have enhanced security measures in their parking decks, including extra lighting, help stations and routine foot patrols by security guards.
They said police are now reviewing surveillance video in hopes of gathering more clues about the suspect.
“We need to make sure that people and visitors understand that as a public place, we are open and accessible. It's always a good idea to remain aware of your surroundings and just know what's happening around and protect yourself as well,” said CHS spokesman Kevin McCarthy.
Police said the first suspect is described as a black man, who is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and has a thin build and dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and jeans, investigators said.
The second suspect is described as a black man, who is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and has a thin build and dreadlocks, according to police. Investigators said he was last seen wearing a multicolor jacket and tan pants.
Police think the men left in an early 2000 model Jeep Grand Cherokee with black rims and tires. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
