CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
CMPD officers are searching for a man in connection with a string of burglaries in a west Charlotte neighborhood.
Residents on Lasalle Street said the man broke into two cars and a U-Haul trailer early Sunday morning.
Resident Gintana Mahatha said she was asleep with her husband when the thief came to her house.
"My husband got up and he was looking for his pants and his car keys and stuff and he was like, ‘All my stuff is gone!’" Mahatha said.
Mahatha said while she and her husband were asleep, the suspect opened their bedroom window and crawled in.
"That's scary that he would come in there while we sleep, and that he could see us laying there," Mahatha said.
She told Channel 9 that she woke up moments later to discover the window open and frosty footprints on the ground outside.
Mahatha said her son spotted a man running away, and began to chase him.
Mahatha said that's when the burglar turned and shot at her son, missing him.
"I was scared, because I didn't know if he had been shot," Mahatha said.
Officers recovered a screwdriver from the scene but are still looking for the person responsible.
Anyone with information should call CMPD Crime Stoppers.
