CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The woman who watched a Charlotte cab driver get stabbed by his passenger talked only with Eyewitness News.

This woman did want us to use her name, but she watched Gary Hinson try to fight back as he was attacked.

She said the attack lasted for about 15 seconds.

"I could hear muffled screams from the driver, and I could hear him," she said, holding back the tears. "It's something ill I'll never forget forget, just how brutal and just how viscous it was."

Police caught the suspect, Brian Chandler, after they say he drove off in the cab.

He's due back in court next week.

Hinson's family said his condition is improving.
