A woman’s 27-hour bell ringing marathon raised more than $1,500 for the Salvation Army.

From midnight on Dec. 6 to 3 a.m. on Dec. 7, Salvation Army employee Jessica Chapman set a local record for bell ringing for The Salvation Army.

She raised $1,552.23, which will benefit the programs of The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte.

"I had a great time -- Charlotte is a friendly city," Chapman said. "So many people came by and said hello -- their kindness and encouragement kept me going. I was exhausted at the end, but happy I was able to help so many people. Now that I am rested up I am ready to do it again…I am thinking for next year I will ring 30 hours!"
