YORK COUNTY, S.C. —
A York County pawn shop is accused of selling counterfeit designer goods and sports apparel.York County detectives said they seized 40 jerseys, six baseball caps and 37 other clothing items from the Palmetto Pawn Shop on Old York Road.
"They look very real," said sheriff's spokesman Trent Faris. "But, there's just something about them that's a little bit off."
Investigators said the retail value of the counterfeit goods is $7,725.Detectives said the items were counterfeit NFL and NBA jerseys and hats, and the other clothing items were from assorted designer labels such as True Religion, Ed Hardy and Versace.
"The tag, on the back of the clothes, some of them just peel right off. They're not sewn in like they're supposed to," Faris said.
Detectives said the store owner will be charged with distribution of counterfeit trademark goods.
"He admitted that the things they were selling were counterfeit," Faris said.
