CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Lower gas prices are driving a record number of people in the Carolinas to travel for the July Fourth holiday.
More than 1 million North Carolinians are expected to fly or drive for the holiday.
In South Carolina, more than 500,000 are expected to fly or drive.
These numbers would be a 5 percent increase for both sates over last year.
In Charlotte, the average price per gallon of gas is $3.23, which is just a little higher than the statewide average of $3.21.
South Carolina has a significantly lower average price for gas at $2.94 per gallon.
