Lowe’s Funds Outdoor Learning Lab For Rock Hill Schools

ROCK HILL, S.C. —

Lowe’s donated $23,750 to Rock Hill Schools Friday for a new outdoor learning laboratory that will be available to all district students and local community members.

The new lab will be called “The Great Outdoors” and will be built at the Sunset Park Center for Accelerated Studies, located on Ogden Road. It will be open to teachers and students in all elementary schools and will include a small amphitheatre for students during the day and community members on evenings and weekends.

District officials said the outdoor classroom will feature a butterfly garden, a small greenhouse, a cactus garden, a vegetable garden, palmetto trees, birdbaths and a weather station, among other things.

The grant came from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. In 2009, the foundation contributed more than $30 million to support community and education projects in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

"Lowe's is committed to recognizing and supporting efforts that enrich the lives of our neighbors and customers," said Jeremy Fisher, store manager of Lowe's of Rock Hill. "By supporting Rock Hill Schools' outdoor classroom, we are contributing to a cause that's important to our customers and employees and helping build a stronger foundation for the children who will be tomorrow's employees, homeowners and community leaders."
