KANNAPOLIS, N.C. —

Matthew Craft made his first court appearance Thursday on numerous methamphetamine charges after Kannapolis police, Rowan County sheriff's deputies and State Bureau of Investigation agents said they discovered a suspected methamphetamine lab on his Troutman Hill Road property.

Police said the meth was being produced in an old tool shed behind the home of Craft's grandmother.

"Yes, it scared me when they told me what it was," said Craft's grandmother, Charlean Scott.

Scott told Eyewitness News she couldn't believe what police accuse her grandson of doing in her own backyard.

"You would never have thought Matthew would do something like that," she said.

Craft is jailed under a $100,000 bond.
