Man Barricades Self In Home For Hours

UNION CO., N.C. —

Deputies in Union County spent five hours trying to get to a man accused of threatening to kill his wife and himself.

The county's Special Response Team forced its way into the home on Ridge Road, near Monroe, around 12:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Deputies said the 64-year-old man barricaded himself inside after threatening to kill his wife.

"We made forced entry inside the house and found him in the bedroom," Sheriff Eddie Cathey said.

Deputies did not identify the man but said he will undergo a mental health evaluation.

Deputies found guns inside the home, but not in the bedroom where the man was located.

Crews closed off the intersection of Friendly Baptist Church and Unionville Indian Trail roads while the SWAT team moved in. Those roads are now back open.

No one was hurt.
