Man Questioned After Girlfriend's Body Found In Trunk

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. —

Authorities in Alexander County said they're questioning a man after finding his girlfriend's body in the back of his car.

Deputies got a call from the man's son around 4 a.m. saying his father, Walt Pantovich, called him saying Pantovich killed his girlfriend, Sheila McPhearson.

Officials stopped the car around 6 a.m. on Highway 16 in south Alexander County. They said they found McPhearson's body inside the trunk of their Grand Marquis. Officials said the body was wrapped in plastic and tied with rope.

Pantovich was reportedly returning from Murrell's Inlet. Sheriff's deputies think he was from South Carolina but he was headed to Alexander County because the couple had a son there.
