CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A legendary poet and civil rights activist visited Charlotte Saturday afternoon to present Governor Beverly Perdue with a special award.
Doctor Maya Angelou hosted her tenth annual scholarship fundraiser for the United Negro College Fund.
She awarded Governor Perdue with a lifetime achievement award.
Organizers said Perdue was chosen because of her hard work that helped her contribute greatly to the community.
