CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
“Have you used meth?” asked reporter Alan Cavanna outside the driver’s Hudson Chapel home.
“No, and I’m not going to say it anymore. I’ve said no, no, no. I’ve never used methamphetamine,” he said.
On Wednesday, NASCAR filed papers saying the driver tested positive once again for methamphetamine on July 6. The documents even include an affidavit from the driver's stepmother that says she's witnessed him use the drug at least 30 times, including once before a race at Darlington. “Why do you think two tests came back for the positive use of meth?” Cavanna asked.
“Well, why would you think 15 of them shows negative?” Mayfield said.
“We haven’t seen those (results) yet,” Cavanna said.
“I know, but we're going to see them. That's why I haven’t been able to talk to you," Mayfield said.

Mayfield had choice words for his stepmother, claiming she conspired to kill his father in 2007 and that NASCAR paid her to give the sworn testimony.
“Why would NASCAR do that?” Cavanna asked.
“Why wouldn't they?” Mayfield said. “For one, she needs money. She's tried to get money out of me several times.”
Mayfield had his own camera rolling in the pickup. He said he's documenting everything, and that it will one day prove his innocence.
“For some, you've got to imagine that this would be hard to believe -- that NASCAR would go to these lengths to indict one driver,” Cavanna said.
“It probably would be hard to believe, but when it all comes out, you’ll believe it,” Mayfield said.
Eyewitness News called both Mayfield's lawyer and NASCAR officials Thursday afternoon. Neither returned the calls.
