MONROE, N.C. —

A memorial service is being held for the Monroe teen whose body was found in a river nearly four months after she disappeared in Maryland.

The service for 16-year-old Phylicia Barnes starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Lee Park Baptist Church in Monroe and is open to the public.

Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil is being held in Baltimore to honor Barnes’ memory. The vigil is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Reisterstown Square Apartments, the place where Barnes was last seen alive in December.

Her body was pulled last week from the Susquehanna River after being spotted by workers at the Conowingo Dam.

Authorities have not yet determined how Barnes died. Police have not found any links between Barnes and a Virginia man whose body was found in the river three miles away on the same day.
