CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
In new court documents filed Monday, four people testify to witnessing Mayfield use methamphetamine more than 50 times dating back to 1997.
One man said he saw Mayfield use the drug at his race shop in 2006, and watched the driver use the drug "almost on a daily basis" in a barn at Mayfield's Catawba County home.
Another testified Mayfield was once on his way to Charlotte Motor Speedway when the driver snorted the drug off a mirror.
Now, NASCAR wants to give him another chance to prove it he's not a drug user.
Included in Monday's court filings is a request that Mayfield undergo a physical and mental examination to determine if he suffers from a substance abuse disorder and/or AD-HD
Mayfield did not return calls seeking comment. His lawyer, John Buric, said he had no comment Monday night. Eyewitness News did contact two of the people quoted in the affidavits, but neither of those men wanted to answer our questions.
