National Adoption Day Brings New Families Together

 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Over 50 children in Mecklenburg County were officially adopted on Saturday at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.

This is the sixth year the Mecklenburg County Juvenile Court, the Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Court’s office, the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services and the Guardian Ad Litem Program have cosponsored the event that coincides with National Adoption Day.

There are currently over 1,000 children in Mecklenburg County’s Foster Care System. Of those, 300 have been cleared and ready for adoption.

Nationwide, there are an estimated 510,000 children in Foster Care. 129,000 of whom are available to be adopted.

National Adoption Day happens every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
