CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
The new 24-hour Wal-Mart sits on North Tryon Street, a couple of miles from the old location, in the university area.
David McCartey is a Wal-Mart shopper.
"A new business is coming in, obviously more jobs is a good thing," he said.
Those new job numbers, come in at 300 new positions.
That makes commissioner George Dunlap happy.
"That's a big economic impact on this community, especially in light of the fact that we are suffering from job loss," he said.
But when Eyewitness News stopped at the old Wal-Mart location, shopper Denise Hard said she is a bit worried about small businesses here.
"What I have concerns for are the local competitors. I think about the supermarkets," she said.
Dunlap said the bottom line is that money will be coming in.
"A facility this large, they of course, pay a good amount of property tax, their storm water fees, all associated with opening a new facility like this, " he said.
Besides those new jobs, The Wal-Mart Foundation handed out more than $15,000 to community organizations.
