Now No Deadline For Opening New Section Of I-485

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

North Carolina Department of Transportation officials said on Tuesday that the new stretch of Interstate 485 would be open by Thursday evening, but now they’ve decided not to set a deadline.

Engineers walked through and inspected the entire five-mile stretch from the Brookshire Freeway to Old Statesville Road early Tuesday and had some concerns.

NCDOT spokeswoman Jen Thompson said engineers are worried about some drainage issues and other small items.

She said the department decided not to set a deadline to open the new road, and the NCDOT will send a news release 12 to 24 hours before the new stretch is ready to open.
