Officers Scour Neighborhood For Retired School Bus Driver

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Dozens of police officers and firefighters searched a neighborhood in west Charlotte Thursday night for a retired Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus driver.

Barbara Springs, 61, was last seen at 2 p.m. Wednesday at her home on Barringer Drive near Revolution Park.

About 30 uniformed officers and 25 firefighters canvassed surrounding neighborhoods and searched creeks west of I-77.

Police did not suspect foul play but Springs' family members were concerned about her safety.

Springs left her cell phone and keys at home, a relative told Channel Nine Eyewitness News.

"She's a sweet person, she loved church, she loved to sing," said Shantel Coit, a cousin.

"If she's out there and can hear me, all I can say is, 'Come home. We've got to sing Sunday so, come home,'" Coit said.

Springs was last seen wearing a blue jacket with a yellow fleece liner, blue Capri-style sweat pants, and a khaki brown baseball cap.

Springs wears glasses and walks with a limp.

Police asked anyone who saw her to call 911.
