One Bank Robbery Suspect In Custody After East Charlotte Police Chase

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Police have one bank robbery suspect in custody after a brief chase in east Charlotte.

Officer say two men robbed the SunTrust on Galleria Road on Tuesday afternoon. Someone spotted a Volvo matching the description of the getaway car at a gas station, and when police pulled up the car took off.

Officers chased the car until it crashed into a police cruiser off Village Lake Drive near Monroe Road. The driver, who was the only person in the car at the time, jumped out and ran.

Two nearby schools, East Mecklenburg High School and Greenway Park Elementary School, were briefly put on lockdown while officers searched for the man. He was arrested a short time later.

Police are still looking for other bank robber.
