CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A passerby on Whittington Street, near Statesville Road, found the man suffering from a gunshot wound just before 10 a.m. Initially, the calls came in about man passed out on the road. Further calls came in thinking the victim had been hit by a car.
A number of officers showed up at the scene, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief, Rodney Monroe. “We believe that the shooting happened further up the street here, where we have it roped off,” said Captain Bruce Bellamy. Bellamy also said officers are trying to figure out exactly where the shooting happened.
Officers said the shooting does not appear to be a random. At last check, the victim was undergoing surgery. We’re working to learn his name and condition.
