Panthers Player Beason Arrested On Assault Charge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason faced misdemeanor assault charges on Monday more than two weeks after his alleged victim says Beason beat him inside the Uptown Caberet strip club.

Evewitness News interviewed the alleged victim, Greg Frye, the day after the November 15th incident.

"We got into an altercation there. He (Beason) was upset over something that was said over a girl," Frye said, "and he threw a punch at me inside of (Uptown) Caberet.

Frye had clear injuries to his face and eye.

He said in the hours after the team's victory over Atlanta, he accompanied another Panthers player to a bar and then to the strip club where he met Beason.

Frye said he was attacked one hour later.

"I tried to walk away and I was struck when I was downstairs," Frye said.

Police said when they arrived that night, Beason was not at the club and in the past two weeks he was never named as a suspect.

But on Monday a magistrate issued a warrant for Beason's arrest charging him with him assault.

His alleged victim said Monday he'll soon need surgery for his wounds.

"You go out and you have a good time and you root for your team," Frye said, "and you go downtown and you end up fighting them later."

Beason's lawyer told our news partner, the Herald in Rock Hill, that his client will plead not guilty and is looking forward to his day in court.

Officials for the Panthers said they were aware of the investigation and have already addressed it with Beason.

Beason was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 11th.
